Come capture the energy and stories of people on the move in this fun, hands-on photo session with Jonathan Cooper!

Led by photographer Jonathan Cooper, and Red Rice Books, this hands-on workshop invites participants to learn how to capture the beauty, intimacy, and power of people gathering and eating together. Grounded in the belief that shared meals tell our truest community stories, the session focuses on photographing food in context—hands passing plates and tradition, conversations mid-laugh, folks teaching, friends lingering and laughing at the table. Participants will explore practical techniques for documenting gatherings respectfully and authentically while honoring food as a connector, archive, and living expression of culture. Participants should bring their own cameras – from phones to DSLR’s -- to apply these techniques with devices with which they already have familiarity.

Flour & Ink is a recipe-storytelling and portrait exhibition coming to The Market at 7th Street as part of SHOUT!, transforming cherished handwritten recipes into living art that celebrates Charlotte’s culinary heritage and the people behind it. Through interactive community prompts, story-sharing moments, and the Faces of Flour & Ink portrait series featuring selected local chefs, the activation invites visitors to slow down, connect, and experience the memories, traditions, and flavors that bring us together.
