Red Rice Books and Nebedaye Farms have come together to bring you a three-part cultural experience rooted in food, memory, and ancestral wisdom. Through this immersive journey, we honor the heritage of African diasporic foodways by cultivating knowledge, seeds, and community.
Alkebu-lan Botanical Gardens is a project of Nebedaye Farms which seeks to reintroduce medicinal and ancestral crops to the community through educational programming, community planting events, outdoor dinners featuring local Black chefs, utilizing the crops harvested.
All proceeds of this initiative will go to this project. For more information, please visit The Alkebu-lan Botanical Gardens on Facebook.
Seeds hold more than sustenance—they hold stories, migrations, resistance, and reclamation. From okra to black-eyed peas, African ancestral seeds represent traditions that nourished generations through forced displacement and deep-rooted survival. These seeds are powerful vessels of continuity. By growing them, we are growing memory, legacy, and liberation.
