Spices tell stories—of migration, trade, survival, and creativity. In this workshop, Creole Pitmaster Nate Figaro of 8020 Creole BBQ will lead participants through the cultural significance of spice blending in Black culinary traditions, particularly in Southern and diasporic cooking. This workshop frames spice blending as both culinary skill and cultural expression.

Bio: Nate Figaro is self taught Pitmaster with roots from Lafayette, Louisiana. He started 8020 Creole BBQ to highlight the BBQ and both Creole and Cajun cuisine of Louisiana and the Mississippi Delta. Nate has worked with James Beard nominated Pitmasters around the South and continues to develop his craft and represent the history of those African American Pitmasters and chefs who came before him.
