The Mothers Day Edition- Giving Life

Overview

'Egbe: Soul Family' is a group exhibition presented by the Spring 2026 Culture Bearers in culmination of their 10 week creative residency.

Featuring local artists Nellie Ashford, Yazz Atmore, Monique Norris and Tiffonye' Wilkins — alongside their mentors, Jasiatic Usher and Michael Maxwell.

Over the course of a 10-week residency, the artists have spent time in and out of the studio exploring ideas surrounding family, soulmates, good friends, Yoruban spirituality, and more.

Their original artworks will line the walls of The Arts Factory (1545 W Trade St) on Wednesday, April 22 from 6-8pm.

"In Yoruba, the word Egbe translates to community or society. Egbe Orun refers to a person’s spiritual mates, heavenly companions or soul family. It is believe our Egbe watches over us, guides us, connects with us and even interferes at times throughout our journeys here on earth. From Divine interventions, soul connections, mischievous coincidences & gentle redirections; our Egbe is here to remind us the importance of kinship, survival, care, memory, and responsibility.

This show is an ode and an offering to our soul families here on earth and in the heavens. ‘Egbe: Soul Family’ invites reflection on our own personal connections to family in its widest, most liberating sense—the families we are born into, the families we choose, the families that choose us, and the broader web of relationships that teaches us who we are and how we belong."

Come early to shop original art and handmade goods from the Rhizome Arts Market set up in the lobby. Each month the QC Family Tree Rhizome artists come together to present themed market events with new and favorite artworks available for sale. This month the theme is: Giving Life.
